What it is

Gemini is Google's multimodal AI assistant. It has the ability to comprehend, interpret, and respond to text, data, code, images, audio, and video inputs with very good contextual agility.

It stands out for its ability to synthesize complex information with analytical clarity, making it ideal for quick prototyping, documenting, researching, and decision-making support, being a key tool to entrepreneurs, designers, PR, social media, marketing managers, comms teams, and product managers to be Positionless.

Although it looks like ChatGPT, we've been testing it, and it's worth mentioning that there are some key differences between them.

The most relevant one is Gemini's native integration into the Google environment, which allows it to easily connect with Gmail, Google Docs, Drive, Sheets, and YouTube. This is extremely useful for those already working with Google Workspace, as they can use Gemini to navigate information in their personal or corporate spaces and create new outputs from all the data in them.

By its integration with Google and its content indexing system, Gemini seems to have the capability of providing more accurate information, particularly the free plan, when compared with the free plan of ChatGPT.

Regarding the way of working of each tool, Gemini is also designed to interact with multiple data sources together, like answering questions based on a PDF and an image at the same time, while ChatGPT works better on interactive dialogue per-to-peer, providing memory capabilities and a much more personalized experience, with several plugins available.

Uses and features of Gemini

We dove into Gemini's features so you don't have to. Check out how it can help marketers to become Positionless and save time:

  • Automatic Executive assistant for those using Google Ecosystem

It drafts email responses based on Gmail threads, summarizes most important topics from daily emails or from meeting notes on Google Docs, analyzes important trends regarding your business on Google Sheet, and surfaces relevant files on Drive. It is also able to turn any interaction result in the platform into a Google document just with one click.

  • Content “creation”

Still on the topic of Google Workspace features, Gemini can help users review content on Google Docs and other formats by rewriting, summarizing, or even expanding the ideas on paragraphs or entire texts directly in the files. It can also change tone, wording, formality levels, and generate other kinds of files from the original one.

  • YouTube "watching"
Unlike other AIs like ChatGPT, Gemini can "watch" content directly from YouTube. Users must paste a video link into the platform, and it will transcribe, explain, or summarize the content. It can also bring in complementary ideas from other sources when asked and transform all into a presentation or a file for sharing.

  • Voice interaction

Gemini Live feature enables users to do real-time voice interaction with it, creating a dynamic, back-and-forth dialogue. This functionality can be very useful for tasks like group brainstorming, language practicing, getting information while doing other tasks like driving or walking.

  • Cross-Format Reasoning

It can interpret and reason across formats like text, PDFs, spreadsheets, presentations, charts, images, and videos on YouTube. Users can ask it to compare data from a PDF and a charted image, or extract insights from a document while cross-referencing a video explanation

  • Complex Documentation and Reporting

It generates memos, product briefs, or meeting recaps using structured information. Users can upload multiple files (e.g., survey responses, competitive analysis, email exchanges) and get a coherent narrative, helping professionals move from cluttered input to clear communication.

  • Large Research Analysis and Synthesis

Gemini excels at processing large inputs like whitepapers, policies, reports, or lengthy articles, summarizing the content in simple language or tailored formats (bullet points, tables, action items, etc.). The feature Deep Research is able to deep dive into complex subjects, helping users to have access to dozens of sources and summarized materials in minutes.

  • Data Interpretation and simplification

While it’s not a full data science suite, Gemini helps interpret spreadsheet data, describe patterns, propose hypotheses, generate basic visualizations, or turn tables into written narratives. It helps non-technical users make sense of raw data without needing Excel mastery or coding skills.

  • Support on image generation

Despite being able to generate images from text prompts thanks to its native integration with Imagen4, Gemini can be also very good in refining visual ideas, defining styles and moods, and translating creative intentions into structured prompts for image creation in other AI tools, such as Midjourney.

  • Short videos creation

Google Gemini's AI model for video generation, Veo3, allows users to create high-quality 8-second videos from text prompts, but only the Pro and Ultra plans give access to this feature.

  • From ideation to prototyping

The Canvas function helps to transform users' ideas into functional apps, games, websites, and digital products from scratch. It can use text prompts and "understand" sketches of ideas to create codes and visual interactive prototypes, being particularly useful to Product Owners and Managers, marketing leaders, and web designers.

...test Gemini's capability to analyze Youtube videos!

Analyze the YouTube video provided by the following URL. Use your video extraction tools to fetch the transcript and metadata, and then generate the following output.

[INSERT THE YOUTUBE URL HERE]

  1. Provide a comprehensive summary of the video's entire content in one paragraph.
  2. Identify the most significant highlights or key moments in the video, organized in bullet points. For each highlight, provide the minute: second timestamp and a brief, descriptive title explaining the content.
  3. Format: `[MM:SS]` - [Brief description of the key moment/topic]
  4. Identify and clearly explain the three (3) most important core concepts, ideas, or lessons presented. For each concept, provide a Concept Name and a detailed explanation.

Common mistakes made and limitations of Gemini

Gemini is a very complete and sophisticated tool, but you must be aware of its limitations to avoid wasting time asking for things it doesn't do well or being surprised by bad outputs.

  • No integration with other video platforms

Gemini's direct URL-based video analysis is restricted to YouTube. It can't directly access and "watch" videos from Instagram or TikTok, but users can download content from these platforms and upload it on Gemini to have them described or transcribed.

  • Relying too much on video comprehension

While it does a great job when "watching", understanding, describing, and summarizing video ideas, the information it brings isn't always accurate, as it can misunderstand or hallucinate. Important information may need to be overlooked or altered.

  • Limited image generation feature

Although Gemini is very good at creating images, it can generate nonsense outputs when the requests are too complex. It also works differently from Midjourney, as it cannot accurately edit or recreate an existing image. It will always create a new one, which can be a problem if you are trying to set up a campaign or working with brand materials.

  • Limited integration with Google Ecosystem for starter users

Starter users cannot use Gemini's built-in extensions to interact with their Google Docs. The interaction must be done manually through traditional copy-and-paste on the platform.

  • Treating it like a search engine and assuming real-time knowledge

Gemini isn’t designed for fact retrieval like Google Search. It creates outputs based on patterns in the data, which may lead to hallucinations or outdated answers, especially in fast-changing topics like news or finance. Gemini's knowledge base is updated regularly, but it does not have real-time access to every single event as it happens.

  • Feeding complex instructions all at once

Although Gemini can process several data sources at once, trying to get a polished report, graph, and summary in a single prompt usually results in vague or incomplete outputs. Gemini performs better when guided step-by-step across tasks.

  • Assuming it understands your context

Even though Gemini integrates with Gmail and Drive, it doesn’t "know" your projects, company, or clients unless you explicitly paste or upload the relevant documents. Users sometimes forget to give that context.

  • Using vague prompts

Asking “Summarize this” or “Give me insights” without stating what you’re looking for often leads to generic responses.

Tips to avoid these mistakes

With these tips in mind, you'll rock using Gemini:

  • Be clear about what you need from it

Instead of saying “Analyze this data,” say “Tell me which product category had the biggest drop in sales from Q1 to Q2” or “Create 3 hypotheses based on this table about consumer behavior during holidays”.

  • Ask for specific formats

Request for tables, step-by-step breakdowns, or pro/con lists to structure the output. Gemini handles formatting well, especially when requested explicitly.

  • Detail the context

Make sure you are giving relevant and well-contextualized information about your projects, company, and data, so Gemini can be more accurate when working for you. If you want it to review your emails from August 1st to August 15th, you have to be specific about the year, or it will bring you emails from all previous years.

  • Fact-check outputs

For anything legal, financial, or strategic, cross-check Gemini’s results with trusted sources or a subject-matter expert. For video analysis, clustering, and content summaries, select a few points to compare with the original sources to ensure consistency. If you have doubts about any specific information, you can always ask Gemini to double-check directly with the source or seek other sources that corroborate it.

When should non-experts call experts?

As you already must have noticed, AI tools can't replace experts when it comes to sophisticated or complex tasks. Learn when to call the experts:

  • A data analyst should validate the logic and ensure the right methods were use when decisions depend on deep statistical accuracy
  • Gemini can't replace a BI specialist when you need dynamic dashboards, advanced segmentation, or advanced data blending.
  • A data engineer may be needed to structure the inputs before AI can assist properly.
  • A designer is necessary when it comes to maintaining visual brand consistency or developing materials that require complex adjustments and edits.
  • A video maker, scriptwriter and advertisement team will be needed to create long video campaigns for TV or social media.
  • Copywriters must be on the project to review written content and guarantee tone and messaging alignment.
  • A specialized researcher should be involved in projects that require in-depth analysis of local social and economic contexts, consumer habits and perceptions, among others.

Notes on pricing
